8. Halt and Catch Fire

Halt and Catch Fire is set in the 1980s and puts the focus on the technology revolution of the time which saw the likes of Apple, IBM and Microsoft all going head to head in order to change the future with their computer developments.

Interestingly, the series offers a fictionalized insider’s view of these events, with Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy) playing the driven and volatile ex-IBM employee who forces his employees to also enter into the PC arms race…by any means necessary!

He’s joined by an impressive cast which includes Scoot McNairy (Argo), Indie star Cameron Howe (Breathe In), and Kerry Bishé (Scrubs), and the pilot has been met with rave reviews. It may seem like a fairly specialist subject to tackle, but despite the technological premise, the drama and dirty tactics utilised by Pace’s Joe MacMillan – who has a serious chip on his shoulder – should make this compelling viewing regardless.
