9) Edward James Olmos – Blade Runner
Billed forth in the credits, James Olmos’ screen time amounts to little more than a few minutes, but he feels like a much deeper presence in the film. As Gaff, the hobbling police officer with a penchant for sculpting (impressive-looking) miniature origami figures, there is something incredibly compelling about him.
Maybe it’s his ragged appearance, or the fact that he mostly communicates in Cityspeak (the film’s invented street language). Whatever it is, he’s an important component in creating the film’s atmosphere, noir-ish sensibility.
