5. Batman: The Court Of Owls
Another series which was part of DC’s “The New 52” relaunch, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo made the interesting decision of introducing a new threat to Gotham City in the main Batman title rather than relying on one of the Caped Crusader’s well-known foes. The Court of Owls is revealed as the secret society who rules over the city, dealing in corruption and murder to intimidate their way into wealth and power. The Court employs a breed of highly trained undead assassins known as Talons, wearing owl masks on their faces to disguise their true identities. They try to break Batman, and things get extremely personal when it is revealed in the sequel (“City of Owls”) that Bruce Wayne’s connection to this bizarre group may be even more shocking than he could have ever imagined.
LOVED the first 2 volumes of “The Ultimates”. Great list actually.
The first comic book my boyfriend got me to read was Terry Moore’s Stranger’s In Paradise. This isn’t a super hero comic book, but just an amazing story, with some of the most well rounded, believable and lovable characters ever!
I enjoyed this list, however, I wish it was more than just ‘hero’ comics.
