5. The Falcon (Anthony Mackie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Due to the period in which many of Marvel’s characters were created, there’s arguably a serious lack of racial diversity when it comes to the heroes who make up The Avengers. However, the late 1960s and early 1970s saw addition of many African American characters to the Marvel Universe, with Sam Wilson/The Falcon being one of the most notable.
Serving as an ally and close friend to Captain America over the years, the duo formed a close bond and have teamed up countless times. Choosing Pain & Gain star Anthony Mackie – an actor who fans have been desperate to see in a comic book movie for years – to play the hero was a smart choice, and it’s easy to imagine him excelling as he takes flight. Will he still have as psychic connections to birds? We’ll see…
