Deadpool’s appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was supposed to lead to Ryan Reynolds starring in a spinoff movie (presumably titled X-Men Origins: Deadpool). Unfortunately, Fox really dropped the ball on that movie, and the Merc with the Mouth’s appearance in particular was totally botched by the studio.

As a result, the chances of a Deadpool movie appeared to fade, and years went by with no sign of the fan-favourite character getting his own big screen adventure. Reynolds would go on to play Green Lantern, and Fox rebooted the X-Men franchise (sort of) with X-Men: First Class and then X-Men: Days of Future Past.

However, everything changed when leaked test footage found its way online in mysterious circumstances. Studio bosses were unable to ignore the way that Deadpool was being embraced by fans online, and it didn’t take long for the character to get a release date; February 12th, 2016. Reynolds also confirmed his return.

Casting has continued, and it appears as if director Tim Miller is still following the script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick which leaked online a number of years ago. However, thing change, and there are a number of characters we both think we will see and those we hope will turn up. Here are ten of our favourites!

10. Blind Al

Blind Al

Deadpool is a weird character, so is it really all that surprising that his roommate is an elderly blind woman who was once an operative for British Intelligence? Wade Wilson was actually hired to kill Blind Al, but decided to kidnap her instead. This ensured her survival, but Deadpool’s decision to keep her prisoner led to them developing a strange dynamic as he uses Blind Al like a mother figure.

The two play potentially deadly practical jokes on each other too, and that should make for an interesting addition to the movie. It will be incredibly strange of course, but that’s kind of the point. Who could they cast in the role? Helen Mirren would be a fun choice, but as long as it’s someone who can play off Reynolds, there’s no need to worry.
