Taking part in a “#RockTalk” Q&A session recently, wrestler turned actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed that he will be working with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment on one of their projects in 2014. Could it be Batman Vs. Superman? After all, that movie has already found a Wonder Woman and several other members of the Justice League are rumoured to appear. On the other hand, it could be one of the studios planned lower-budget adaptations like the recently hinted at Suicide Squad! Either way, this is exciting news for comic book fans as having the Fast & Furious and G.I. Joe: Retaliation star in one of DC’s movies would certainly give them a much needed edge over the extremely successful work being done by Marvel Studios! So, who could the highest grossing actor of 2013 be playing? Here are ten suggestions…

10. Darkseid

Ask any comic book fan who should be the villain in the Justice League movie, and they’ll give you one name: Darkseid. One of the most powerful and evil characters in the DC Universe, the villain hails from Apokolips and uses an army of Parademons in his quest to eliminate all free will from the universe and reshape it into his own image. This has led Darkseid to attempt to conquer Earth on more than one occasion, with the latest – taking place in the pages of the rebooted Justice League – resulting in Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Cyborg all coming together as a team for the first time. Casting an actor like Dwayne Johnson would eliminate the need for CGI enhancements as he has the perfect build to come across as the intimidating baddie. It would also give the actor the opportunity to take on an entirely different type of role!

  1. About Rock = Lantern: Most obvious is that he’s way, way too big. The Rock is a massive behemoth of a man. Bigger than Affleck and Cavil combined. DC/WB won’t let a side character look like he could crush their two main flagship heroes in his palms. A better fit for John Stewart would be Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Promethueus, etc.).

Doomsday would be downright perfect, but that character kills Superman (that’s Doomsday one and only thing on his resume, so doing anything else would be a travesty). Problem is, I doubt they’re going to kill Superman after just a single Man of Steel movie. Hence, I don’t think Doomsday will be seen anytime soon.

Black Adam, Darkseid, and Cyborg would be nice fits for him.

  2. I bet 50/50% chance he’ll either be martian man hunter or cyborg since cyborg was referred to in man of steel and martian man hunter since there making a JL movie in the future.

  3. Don’t forget, though. He did slim down quite a bit before bulking up again. This would have to be a part of the deal. Gym Jones and The Rock would do workout magic together.

This would give him another chance to showcase his ability and commitment to be a true actor to fit the part.

  4. The Rock is already in too many movies, but according to this article he should be in juts about every action film and play just about every roll. They should do that, put him in every movie, and call Hollywood Rockwood as well.

  5. I say for a hero, Martian Manhunter or Cyborg. As MM, he’d look great in full makeup/CGI and I can see his voice working well if he made it monotone and emotionless. For Cyborg, I’d rather a (more) black character play him, for obvious reasons. The Rock is too racially ambiguous. But if that was his role, I wouldn’t be mad at all. He’d do a good job and his size would give the makeup team, the effects team, and the costume designers lots of room to work with, thus making the android prosthetics look amazing. As a villain, Darkseid all the way. Again, he’d look awesome in full makeup and it’d be a nice change of character for him who always plays the hero.

  6. Doomsday, Darkseid, and Martian Manhunter would be wrong for him. Done correctly on screen they would have to be CGI or heavy makeup, in which case you’d cast based on voice instead of physique. Unless he played multiple roles (Tolkien movies come to mind).
John Stewart or Aquaman (Gal Gadot proves WB doesn’t care about traditional resemblance to a character) would be good choices. Idris Elba would be the perfect JS, but Marvel pretty much owns him (Black Panther?).
Lobo and Cyborg don’t interest me much, so no thoughts on those two. But no matter what, The Rock will be awesome in whatever DC movie they cast him in.

  7. How does Gal Gadot look NOTHING like Wonder Woman to you? Fanboys act as if Wonder Woman has a very distinct look. She’s a woman with long black hair. Gal has that and she’s freaking beautiful and exotic looking, which is what an Amazonian is SUPPOSED to look like. I applaud WB for casting her look-wise. Acting-wise, only time will tell, but I believe she’ll benefit from the guidance by both Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck, as well as the movie’s writers (which includes the writer of Argo).

  8. Also, Marvel doesn’t own Idris. Plenty of actors have done movies with both studios. Idris would be the perfect John Stewart though. Like, that would be a flawless casting. For Black Panther, I think the optimal choice is Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. He’s African, ripped, and a great actor. For reference of how great he’d be as Black Panther, look at his parts as Adebisi in Oz and Mr. Eko in Lost.

  9. Wat,
Isn’t Cyborg supposed to be just a kid of about 19 to early twenties? I am more of a Marvel fan, so I recognize I may be off base.
I like Johnson for everything else on this list; although I would like to see Terry Crew play Green Lantern [Jon Stewart]. He’s underrated and typecast – I think he could surprise many if he has an opportunity to showcase his acting skills.
Also, I agree with your point about Gal Godat… I think she will need about 15 pounds of muscle, but otherwise, she’s a good choice.

Side-note: I think Justin Timber lake would be great as Wally West

  10. I think Cyborg is depicted as both a teen and an adult, as he’s usually shown as a member of both the Teen Titans and Justice League, depending on the canon. I may be wrong because I admittedly am not the most familiar with comic book origins for characters.

I personally think Terry Crews would be a terrible choice for John Stewart. I love him but he’s mostly suited for comedic roles. When he acts seriously, it’s pretty bad. I think Idris Elba would be optimal choice for John Stewart. Look at him! I don’t think that role could be casted any more perfectly.

Thanks for agreeing with me about Gal Gadot. Fanboys don’t use logic when they bash a casting choice. That’s why they’re fanboys and casting agents get paid for what they do. They know what they’re doing.

And for Flash (Wally West or Barry Allen, I don’t know; as I said, I’m not too familiar with the comics so I wouldn’t know the difference) I think Bradley Cooper would be an excellent choice. He has experience with both serious and comedic roles, so he’d bring the much needed comic relief to the team without being overly silly. He’d bring just the right amount.
