All thirteen episodes of Daredevil premiered on Netflix last Friday, and the series has since been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and comic book fans alike. As you might expect from a show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Daredevil was packed full of Easter Eggs for eagle-eyed viewers.
Some were more obvious than others, and while many were just the kind of casual mentions or references you might expect, others dropped pretty major hints about what’s to come in this corner of the MCU.
Whether it’s certain characters or possibly storylines, Daredevil set the stage perfectly for these street level Marvel/Netflix shows (the others being A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) which will culminate in The Defenders.
Here, you will find ten of the biggest and most revealing Easter Eggs from the drama…
10. The Chitauri Invasion
It’s made clear early on that Daredevil takes place following the events of The Avengers, with the poor state of Hell’s Kitchen (which is actually now a pretty nice neighbourhood compared to when it featured in Frank Miller’s dark and gritty Daredevil run) blamed on the destruction caused by the alien invasion spearheaded by Loki.
A framed Daily Bulletin front page showing the Chitauri invasion can be seen in Ben Urich’s office, but the characters all frequently refer to it as well. It’s clear that the events of that movie have had a huge impact on normal people, and it’s this which has led to Wilson Fisk being able to take advantage by increasing the criminal dealings in this damaged part of New York City and using his wealth to “help”.
