4. The Death of Gwen Stacy
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was easily the worst of this year’s four major superhero movies, but despite its many problems (some of which we’ll address a little later in this feature), you have to give credit where it’s due for how well Gwen Stacy’s death was handled.
Some fans saw it coming when Emma Stone was spotted on set wearing the same costume as her comic book counterpart, but that made the actual moment no less shocking or emotional and Andrew Garfield really excelled here as his Peter Parker broke down upon realising what had happened.
It’s unfortunate that Marc Webb and the producers still appear to be terrified of retreading ground even remotely similar to Sam Raimi as the iconic bridge that Gwen is actually falls from in the comics was replaced with a pretty anonymous – and poorly CGI’d – clock tower.
