Rubin “Hurricane” Carter (Denzel Washington) – The Hurricane

Although some have criticised alleged inaccuracies in the storytelling, it is impossible to deny the gravity of Denzel Washington’s central performance in this brilliant sport-crime saga. The Hurricane follows Rubin Carter as he journeys from middleweight boxing royalty to a triple homicide convict, Washington’s distinctly human portrayal adds layers that even seasoned viewers would not expect.

This is a deeply troubling, profound and poignant portrait of social image and criminality which showcases the intoxicating bright lights of success and the wallowing shadows of isolation.
