When Kevin Feige hosted their “Marvel Event” last year, fans were excited to see what the studio were going to announce. However, had two certain movies not been included among them, there would have been some serious backlash. Those were Black Panther and Captain Marvel, and both are set to be released in 2018.
Captain Marvel is particularly exciting, not least because it will be Marvel’s first female-led superhero movie.
There’s also the fact that she just so happens to be one of the best female characters in comic books, not to mention one of the leaders of The Avengers who might just end up fulfilling that role on the big screen too.
Now it has been announced that Nicole Perlman and Meg Fauve will script Captain Marvel (who was originally set to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron before being dropped from the sequel early on), it remains to be seen who exactly will end up playing here.
Here, we list just ten of the best possible candidates to play this beloved hero.
10. Emilia Clarke
If things go well for Emilia Clarke later this year, she’ll become the face of a new Terminator trilogy. Playing Sarah Connor is obviously a big deal and will be a huge test for the actress who has so far made a name for herself in Game of Thrones.
However, it’s surprising that Clarke hasn’t already been snapped up by Marvel at this point, but a role like Captain Marvel would suit her well. While Terminator Genisys will certainly increase the actress’s profile, she’s someone with both an already dedicated fanbase and the advantage of not being a huge name (she’s unknown to those who don’t watch Game of Thrones).
Kevin Feige could mould her into the Captain Marvel they want, and it wouldn’t hurt to cast one of TV’s biggest stars so at least the face is familiar to moviegoers even if the name isn’t. She is a great actress and this could well be her big break.
