Debuting to excellent early reviews at Telluride and TIFF – you can read our review here – Ben Affleck’s Argo has emerged as something of a contender in the coming awards season.

Following the ten US TV spots we saw for the film last week, we’ve got the first UK TV spot to share from Warner Bros., who will have a number of potential candidates in the coming Oscar race, including The Dark Knight Rises, Cloud Atlas, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

“Based on true events, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and GK Films’ dramatic thriller “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.”

Affleck takes the lead as expert exfiltrator, Tony Mendez, and stars alongside a fantastic cast, headed up by John Goodman, Scoot McNairy, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, and Tate Donovan.

Chris Terrio has penned the script, adapting the fascinating original 2007 Wired article by Joshuah Bearman, How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran, which you can (and should) read here.

Argo will be released in US theatres this Friday, 12th October, and will be released here in the UK slightly later on 7th November, following its debut at the BFI London Film Festival. It looks set to be one of the best films of the year, so be sure to see it as soon as it arrives in a theatre near you.
