Robert Rodriguez’s return to the world of Machete is promising to be another explosive actioner, with confirmation recently coming of Michelle Rodriguez (no relation) and Jessica Alba’s return alongside Danny Trejo for Machete Kills.

Mel Gibson and Demián Bichir (nominated in this year’s Best Actor category at the Oscars) have also been announced as newcomers the cast, and word now surfaces of one more brilliant addition to what is clearly already an excellent cast.

Variety report that the awesome and tough-as-nails Amber Heard (Drive Angry) is the latest addition to Machete Kills, which finds,

“the titular ex-federale (Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop an arms dealer (Gibson) from launching a deadly missile.

Heard will play a manipulative assassin code-named Miss San Antonio.”

Random fun fact for the day: San Antonio, Texas, happens to be Robert Rodriguez’s hometown.

Heard is of course no stranger to the action/horror genres, gaining considerable attention for her brilliant performance leading All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, and has since gone on to star in the likes of Zombieland and Drive Angry, and most recently opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary.

Machete Kills is set to go before cameras in Texas this month, and if all goes well, should be in cinemas sometime next year. With Rodriguez also returning to the world of Sin City this year for the sequel, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, we should be able to look forward to seeing both on the big screen in 2013.
