X-Men First ClassWith its release set for May 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past has long been one of the most anticipated blockbusters of next year.

Bryan Singer makes a welcome return to the franchise, bringing together the casts of the original franchise and its First Class reboot for what promises to be an epic movie filled with action and adrenaline-fuelled tension.

The lion’s share of things seen from the film so far have been set photos, with the first teaser posters arriving only recently out of Comic-Con. And now the first official image has landed online, giving a glimpse at Hank McCoy / Beast, Professor Charles Xavier, and Logan / Wolverine.

Whilst the official synopsis remains under wraps, the original arc’s synopsis is all we have to go on for an indication of the plot:

Days of Future Past is a classic storyline that unfolded in two issues of Marvel Comics’ Uncanny X-Men in 1981, from writer Chris Claremont and artists John Byrne and Terry Austin. The story was partially set in an alternate future where surviving mutants have been penned in concentration camps, giant robots called Sentinels patrol America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted and killed. In the present day, the X-Men were forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from occurring.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry lead what is undeniably the best cast of the franchise so far.

Singer returns to the helm, directing from a script penned by Simon Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn, and Jane Goldman.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released in 3D on 22nd May, 2014 here in the UK, with its US release date set for the next day on May 23rd.
