2016 is a huge year for superhero movies, and as a result, it’s easy to forget that the next instalment in the X-Men franchise is also coming out after good guys collide in both Batman v Superman and Captain America: Civil War. However, rather than fighting between themselves, the mutants will be taking on the ancient villain known as Apocalypse.

This TV spot for the movie doesn’t reveal a huge amount in terms of plot details, but when it comes to epic action, it definitely delivers. Bryan Singer kept things fairly grounded in his first two X-Men movies, but after upping the stakes in Days of Future Past, the filmmaker is clearly going all out to make sure that everyone sits up and takes notice of this instalment!

Here’s the official synopsis for the movie which sheds some light on what else to expect:

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

As well as returning cast members such as Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult, X-Men: Apocalypse will also introduce Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lana Condor, Oscar Isaac, Ben Hardy, Olivia Munn, and a number of others. The movie is currently set to be released on May 27th, 2016.
