The WWE has been making a big effort in recent years to expand their film division beyond straight to DVD action releases starring the likes of John Cena and Stone Cold Steve Austin, with titles like Dead Man Down, Road to Paloma, and Oculus all falling under their banner.

One area where they’ve had quite a bit of success is in the animated realm, with the likes of The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown! and Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery going down very well with younger viewers. However, they’re now teaming up with Sony to produce a Surf’s Up sequel set for release in 2017, and…well, it actually sounds quite good!

The former will distribute it, while the wrestling promotion are set to use their massive social media presence and worldwide audience to market it. Titled Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania, John Cena, Triple H, The Undertaker, Paige, and Vince McMahon (a very unique mixture of talent) are all going to be lending their voices to the movie as a crew known as The Hang 5.

They’ll be helping Cody Maverick (voiced by an unlikely to return Shia LaBeouf in the first movie) search for a legendary big-wave spot known as The Trenches 9 in the sequel.

Hotel Transylvania story artist Henry Yu is directing, while Abdul Williams wrote the script.
