With the director of Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 busy making his mark on the action genre by helming Fast & Furious 7, directing duties on the third movie have been handed over to writer Leigh Whannell.
If his name is familiar, it’s because he also wrote the first two chapters. He also co-created the Saw franchise with James Wan and will direct the third instalment of the popular Insidious franchise (the first two films combined grossed over 0 million at the worldwide box office) from his own script.
Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, which produced both Insidious films, is producing the next instalment along with Oren Peli and Wan.
Shooting is scheduled to start on July 7th later this year, and while the first two films starred Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins and Barbara Hershey, it’s unclear if any of them will actually return for Insidious: Chapter 3. Plot details are also unknown at this point!
A release date of April 3rd, 2015 has officially been set by the studio as well today.
