Led by Brad Pitt, the zombie blockbuster World War Z is finally hitting cinemas today, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the numbers rack up at the box office.

The film has some very strong competition from Pixar’s Monsters University, which opens in the States today as well, along with Zack Snyder’s immense Man of Steel, which is heading into its second weekend following a record-breaking debut.

Despite early negative press, Marc Forster’s zombie film has been gaining some traction in recent weeks. And with Brad Pitt taking centre stage in a film unlike any we’ve seen from him before, I’m confident that audiences will be heading out to see World War Z at the multiplex. And to help them get there, Paramount have released two new clips to showcase a bit of the action we’ve got coming our way this weekend.

United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

Pitt is joined by an awesome cast, led by Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Lucy Aharish, Matthew Fox, Bryan Cranston, Abigail Hargrove, Sterling Jerins, and David Morse.

Forster (Quantum of Solace) is directing from a script by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom), loosely based on the original novel by Max Brooks, with Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) brought in to do re-writes for the re-shoots.

And in case you missed it yesterday, you can see the fun we had creating a little Wayne’s World War Z mash-up trailer.

World War Z is released in 2D and 3D in the US and UK today, June 21st. Here are the latest two clips to whet your appetite.
