We have good news and bad news about two of the most highly anticipated female led superhero movies for you tonight, so let’s start with the former. It has been revealed that Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones helmer Michelle MacLaren has parted ways with Warner Bros. and will no longer direct Wonder Woman.

An official statement from the studio states: “Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.”

That’s a huge blow to the movie which is set to star Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and the second time a female director has exited this kind of movie because of creative differences. The other was Pattie Jenkins who decided not to direct Thor: The Dark World for Marvel. It’s unclear if this behind the scenes change will have an impact on Wonder Woman’s planned 2017 release date, but a replacement will likely be found soon.

Now for the good news! Captain Marvel – a movie which is appropriately being released by Marvel Studios – has found a pair of writers in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman and Inside Out writer Meg LeFauve. They’re only in talks as of right now but are expected to work together on the script.

There’s no director attached at this point (Angelina Jolie has been rumoured), and despite rumours of the character making a cameo appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain Marvel has not been cast either.
