2016 is going to be a very big year for Star Trek as it marks the franchise’s 50th anniversary, and with Star Trek Beyond set for release in July and plans in place for a new TV series, it’s just as exciting to be a Trekkie right now as it is to be a fan of Star Wars!

However, one way the classic Star Trek TV show won’t be honoured is by having William Shatner make a cameo appearance as the original Captain James T. Kirk in the new movie.

“There was never a conversation,” he revealed in a recent interview, confirming that there was never actually any talks for him to reprise the role in Justin Lin’s take on the franchise. After admitting that “it would have been interesting” to see how such a cameo might have been handled, he reiterated that he’s never been asked. “I’m sure they must have thought of it one time or another but I never had a substantial conversation about replaying the role.”

That’s a shame, but who knows, it could just be that everyone is involved is just trying to keep the surprise! However, this rebooted take on Star Trek has already explored the time travel concept fairly well at this stage, and going back down that route might be a bit tedious. We’ll have to wait and see, but for now, check out the trailer by clicking here!
