Chris Evans’ six-picture deal is nearly at an end, and while it’s previously been reported that the Avengers: Age of Ultron star would likely move on once its done (based mostly on comments from Evans himself), it now appears as if the actor has had a change of heart.

Ahead of his appearance in Captain America: Civil War next year, Evans has been doing the junket rounds to promote his directorial debut Before We Go and was inevitably asked about his future as the patriotic Avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and whether or not he will be returning as Steve Rogers after appearing in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.

“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such—I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’ Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.” That’s an understandable perspective, and with Marvel Studios recently breaking free of frugal Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter to now be overseen by Disney, Evans would no doubt get the pay increase he deserves to continue playing Captain America.

“It’s so mind-boggling that I was so tentative in the beginning to jump onboard,” he adds of his initial reluctance to agree to join the MCU back in 2011. “What an asshole I would be if I hadn’t done this. I mean can you imagine? Kicking myself—I’d never forgive myself!”
