Jean-Claude-Van-Damme-in-Welcome-to-the-JungleThe name Jean-Claude Van Damme is synonymous with action, and every once in a while, also with comedy. Next year, Van Damme will be blending both as the lead in Welcome to the Jungle, willing to parody his own reputation as a legend of martial arts.

Van Damme stars as a deranged former Marine who is hired for a corporate retreat, with Adam Brody starring opposite as one of the workers. And with just over two months left before its limited theatrical and VOD release, the first trailer has premiered over on EW.

Van Damme and Brody are joined by Megan Boone, Kristen Schaal, Rob Huebel, Aaron Takahashi, and Dennis Haysbert, and whilst this first trailer doesn’t exactly give you the impression it’s going to be comedy gold, there’s still potential when you have a pairing like Van Damme and Brody, with Schaal along for the ride.

Rob Meltzer is directing from a script by Jeff Kauffmann, the latter making his debut as a writer.

Welcome to the Jungle will be given a limited release in the US on February 7th, 2014, arriving on VOD on the same day. No word on a UK release date yet, and I imagine this one will probably be straight-to-DVD on our shores.
