Everything we’ve seen of Sacha Baron Cohen and his latest movie, The Dictator, points to it being one of the most controversial and funniest films of the year.

Reteaming with his Borat and Brüno director, Larry Charles, Baron Cohen returns as the titular dictator, General Aladeen, and now his country’s official YouTube channel has uploaded the opening scene of the film to whet your appetites.

Co-starring Anna Faris, Sir Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly, Megan Fox, and J.B. Smoove, The Dictator tells,

“The heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.”

Baron Cohen has co-written the script alongside Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaffer, all three of which are former Seinfeld and current Curb Your Enthusiasm writers, so essentially this is going to be brilliant.

Its release date has been slightly pushed back and moved forward in the US and UK, respectively, with both countries now getting it on 16th May (rather than 11th and 18th May). Mark your calendars. If you’re a fan of Baron Cohen’s work to date, this isn’t something you’ll want to miss.
