According to a new report, Warner Bros are hoping to find a female director to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen in 2018. While you always hope that studios will find the right person for the job regardless of gender, this would be a significant moment in the history of the often male-led superhero genre.

Unless Marvel have something up their sleeve, Wonder Woman will be the fist female superhero to reach the big screen in her own movie (do Catwoman and Elektra really count?) and having a woman behind the camera would also mark the first time one of these release hasn’t been helmed by a man.

So, who could be in the running to helm Wonder Woman for its upcoming 2017 release date?

Well, another site reveals that there a number of filmmakers already being eyed, and that list includes Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), Mimi Leder (Deep Impact), Karyn Kusama (Girlfight), and Julie Taymor (The Tempest). TV directors Michelle MacLaren (Game of Thrones) and Tricia Brook (The Walking Dead) are also said to be in the running, while fan favourite choice Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) is also mentioned.

This is an interesting list, but you have to imagine that more names will be added and changed as time goes on due to the fact that Wonder Woman is obviously still in the very early stages of development.

Wonder Woman will be played by Gal Gadot and we’ll get to meet her in Batman v Superman and Justice League before her own solo outing. If you’d like to learn more about the character, click here!
