When the cast of Suicide Squad was announced last month, it was mentioned that Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Oprah Winfrey were all being eyed for A.R.G.U.S. government agent, Amanda Waller.

According to a new report, it’s The Help’s Viola Davis who has ended up being chosen by Warner Bros., making her the latest addition to the amazing looking DC Comics adaptation from Fury helmer David Ayer.

Originally the head of Task Force X, Amanda Waller formed the Suicide Squad to mixed success. Though the team mostly stayed loyal to her, none of them appreciated her ruthless methods and there was mutual disdain on both sides. The character has appeared in live-action in Smallville, Green Lantern, and Arrow.

It’s mentioned that Davis’ busy TV schedule (she stars in How To Get Away With Murder) could end up stopping her from starring in Suicide Squad, but it appears as if those finer details are all being worked out.

There’s a good chance that Amanda Waller could play a role in all of the DC Comics movies – like Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel Studios ones – so it should be interesting to see how she factors into things moving forwards. Suicide Squad is the first DC release after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016.
