As you may have heard, The Iron Giant is getting a re-release on Blu-ray a little later this year (you can check out the trailer below). The film, which is based on Ted Hughes’ 1968 novel The Iron Man, tells the story of a young boy who finds a giant robot that fell to earth from space and was directed by Brad Bird, a filmmaker who would go on to helm movies like The Incredibles for Pixar, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and Tomorrowland.

Could we be about to see a sequel to this beloved movie though? According to Vin Diesel (the voice of The Iron Giant), it certainly sounds like something which may be on the way.

“I have been very lucky to have played so many interesting characters… one of the first and one of my favourites is… the Iron Giant,” he explained in a recent Facebook post before adding. “Don’t be surprised when you hear [Warner Bros.] announce the sequel.”

Talking about his love of the Marvel Universe is what helped the actor land the role of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, so who knows if he’s serious or just trying to get the studio to take note of the demand for a follow-up to the original. We’re just going to have to wait and see for now, but as long as Bird comes back to take the helm, it would be hard to complain!
