Vendetta-PosterMuch like Hummingbird will see Jason Statham take on a role we’re not used to seeing him play, the vigilante action movie Vendetta promises to show a new side to Danny Dyer this year, too.

Anchor Bay have announced that they’ve acquired both the UK and Australian rights from Jonathan Sothcott’s Richwater Films. And with Vendetta expected to hit UK cinemas towards the end of the year, the first trailer has landed online.

Special ops interrogation officer Jimmy Vickers tracks down a gang who slaughtered his parents. With police closing in & his old unit on his trail, he has to to evade capture long enough to complete his gruesome crusade.

Dyer stars alongside Vincent Regan, Bruce Payne, Roxanne McKee, Nick Nevern, Emma Samms, and Ricci Harnett

Stephen Reynolds (The Fall of the Essex Boys) directs from his own script, with Sothcott (Devil’s Playground, Eflie Hopkins) producing.

No word yet on an exact release date for Vendetta, but the press release below notes that the film is set to hit cinemas in winter this year, so be sure to keep an eye out for it towards the end of the year.

London, 27 June 2013 — Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired UK and Australian rights for hard- hitting urban vigilante picture Vendetta from Jonathan Sothcott’s Richwater Films.  The deal, struck between Sothcott for Richwater and Anchor Bay’s Acquisition Director Rod Smith, will see the film in UK cinemas in winter this year.

Vendetta stars Danny Dyer, in what is already being described as a career-best performance, along with Vincent Regan, Bruce Payne, Roxanne McKee, Nick Nevern, Emma Samms and Ricci Harnett.  The film, hailed by Loaded magazine as ‘Death Wish for 2014’ is written and directed by Stephen Reynolds (The Fall of the Essex Boys).

Sothcott commented, “Vendetta is a very important film for me and finding the right domestic home for it was paramount.  It is easy for good movies to get lost in the sea of DTV dross but I know that Rod and all at Anchor Bay realise that they have something special here — a high quality action thriller that really delivers.”

Anchor Bay’s Rod Smith said, “Danny Dyer and Jonathan Sothcott have a success record second-to- none in the UK home entertainment industry.  Their films have sold millions of DVDs and this will be up there with the best of them.  This film is Danny Dyer’s best performance since The Business and it is Jonathan Sothcott’s best film to-date. It is a real coup to land it for Anchor Bay.  Sothcott understands British Cinema better than anyone I know and it is a pleasure to be collaborating with him on this. I genuinely believe this will kick start a new successful chapter in Danny Dyer’s career and take him to even higher levels.”
