It looks like CBS and DC Comics may have found their Supergirl, as The Vampire Diaries and The Originals star Claire Holt is the first name to have emerged to be in the running to play Superman’s cousin on TV.

The series is expected to debut next Autumn, and Holt is among a number of actresses who are said to be testing for the role right now. As a result, there’s nothing to say she’ll definitely end up getting the role, but the fact that she’s the first to be linked to this take on Supergirl by the trades is very interesting.

If Holt does end up being cast, she’ll play Kara Zor-El. According to the official character description, this version of the fan-favourite superhero was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers.

After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way.
