John Hillcoat’s Lawless has been one of the year’s most highly-anticipated projects for some time now, and the level of anticipation increased exponentially when the first trailer landed last night.
Adding to that, we now also have two new images from the film to share with you, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, giving us a new look at Shia LaBeouf in the first and Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain in the second.
Hillcoat is directing from a script by Nick Cave, who’s adapted the original novel by Matt Bondurant, The Wettest County in the World (which was to be the film’s title, before changing to The Wettest County, and finally settling on the effective Lawless). The cast is immense, with Hardy, LaBeouf, and Chastain starring alongside Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke, and the rising young Dane DeHaan, who received considerable attention for his part in Chronicle.
“LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”
Lawless is set for an end-of-summer release in the US on 31st August, and here’s to hoping that we’ll be getting the same date here in the UK. This simply can’t come fast enough. As usual with these two new images, you can click to enlarge.
