Josh-Duhamel-in-TransformersHaving made a name for himself in the original Transformers trilogy, Josh Duhamel has been deservedly making the transition into leading man territory. His latest film, Scenic Route, has just had a well-received premiere at SXSW, and in an interview out in Austin, he spoke about a little about the possibility of a Transformers 4 cameo.

Michael Bay has already said that Transformers 4 will be taking place four years after Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and will be featuring a new, younger cast, alongside Mark Wahlberg.

Wahlberg was the first cast member to be announced, with Bay and Wahlberg reuniting following their work on Bay’s Pain and Gain (due out 26th April in the US, 3rd May in the UK).

Since then, Jack Reynor has come on board the project. And in speaking to THR about his upcoming film, Scenic Route, Duhamel has revealed that Bay has talked to him about a possible cameo return.

“They’re going younger… [Michael] said he wants to put me in it someplace. I don’t know if he was just saying that because he had me on the phone and he felt obligated or what, but you know what? I got to do three of those. It changed my career, it changed my life getting to be a part of something that big, so I’m grateful for even doing the first three of them.”

The possibility is definitely an interesting one to consider. With Shia LaBeouf not wanting to return to the fold, and Mark Wahlberg first announced for the new cast, I am fully on board taking Transformers 4 in a new direction with a new cast. But I really liked Duhamel in the original – both his character and his acting – and would love to see him return, if only for a small scene. It would be a great nod to the first three films to see him come back for more.

Bay will be directing from a script penned by Ehren Kruger (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), with the film set to kick-start a whole new trilogy.

Transformers 4 is expected to hit theatres on 4th July, 2014, and you just know it’s going to be topping the box office when it does. This should be awesome. Hopefully we’ll have more casting news to bring you soon.
