Discovered in a film museum in Argentina in 2008 the new longer cut of Metropolis has been restored and recently screened outdoors at the Berlin Film Festival. It is set to be released again in theatres and on DVD and Blu-Ray later this year.
The version being released is 25 minutes longer and some truly exceptional restoration work has been done to improve the quality of the image.
I absolutely love Metropolis and have seen it at the cinema a number of times and have always been swept up by its magnificence. It is a beautiful film and the story is incredibly emotionally engaging.
If you’ve never got around to seeing this highly influential masterpiece then I can definitely recommend taking advantage of the opportunity later this year to see it on the big screen.
