It’s always a pleasure to be able to bring something special to our readers’ attention and this new trailer for an Olympic-themed drama promises to be just that.

Written and directed by James Webber the film follows the struggles of a teenager whose dreams of swimming in the Olympics are under constant threat by the world he inhabits; life on a rough London estate with a dire family situation are obstacles the young Sam has to overcome daily.

The trailer here shows off some stunning cinematography and Neil Maskell giving a nicely terrifying performance, but it’s the trio of Sam Gittens, Daniel Norford and Brandy Doubleday who will carry this film and they look to be more than up to the task.

The short is due to take its place on the festival circuit and we’ll be looking out for this one. Check out the film’s website for more info, behind the scenes galleries and a great commentary on getting the film made.

A synopsis is here,

Set in London, Driftwood is the story of fifteen-year-old Sam, a swimming prodigy, whose life operates in two very different worlds: a poignant antithesis between talent and achievement at the dawn of his sporting career, and fear and torment in his home and social life.
