With Total Recall falling a little short this past weekend at the US box office, it looks like Universal made the right move in pushing The Bourne Legacy back a week to get slightly more out of the way from The Dark Knight Rises, which continues to dominate at the top spot.

The Bourne Legacy hits US theatres this weekend, before coming to the UK at the start of next week, and now Yahoo Movies have got a new insight into the film, with director Tony Gilroy and leading stars Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz adding a bit of commentary to one of the action set pieces.

“The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.”

Renner and Weisz are joined by a great supporting cast of new and familiar faces alike, headed up by the brilliant Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Stacy Keach, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, and David Strathairn, with Tony Gilroy directing from a script he co-wrote with brother Dan Gilroy (Real Steel, The Fall).

The Bourne Legacy will be released in the US this Friday, 10th August, followed a few days later in the UK on 13th August – the first Monday blockbuster release we’ve had in a little while, if memory serves. Whilst we wait these last few days, here’s a great look behind the production of the film, in which Gilroy says that Renner really does know his way around a motorbike.
