Thor:-The-Dark-World-Poster-FandralMarvel is just a few weeks away from opening Thor: The Dark World at the international box office, launching the movie in cinemas here in the UK over a week earlier than across the Atlantic.

And with just weeks separating audiences from the anticipated sequel’s release, the studio has been gearing up nicely in recent days. Two new international TV spots surfaced earlier in the week, and now the studio has released two new character posters for Fandral (Zachary Levi) and Volstagg (Ray Stevenson).

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Chris Hemsworth is of course front and centre once more as the eponymous hero, with Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Christopher Eccleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Tadanobu Asano, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Chris O’Dowd, and Rene Russo all starring alongside him.

Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) is at the helm this time around, directing from a script penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: The First Avenger) and Christopher Yost (The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes).

Fandral was of course originally played by Joshua Dallas back in 2011, but his Once Upon a Time commitment meant he was unable to return for Thor: The Dark World. Enter, instead, Zachary Levi, who had previously been set to take the role for Kenneth Branagh’s blockbuster, before his commitment to Chuck meant he had to exit, with Dallas brought on instead. Interesting developments, and it should be nice to see Levi’s take on the character now.

Thor: The Dark World will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 30th October in the UK, with its US release date following on November 8th.
