Earlier this year, we found out that Dean Israelite (Almanac) will direct Lionsgate’s upcoming Power Rangers reboot, and now that the latest draft of the script is in, the studio has started looking at young actors who are going to take on the roles of the iconic team members.

According to a new report, Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life), and Brian “Sene” Marc are among those testing for Zack (Black Ranger), while KJ Apa (Shortland Street), Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles) and Mitchell Hope (The Descendants) are testing for Jason (Red Ranger). That’s a surprisingly good pool of talent for this movie!

Also testing for the movie is Naomi Scott (The Martian) and newcomer Stephanie Scott, both of whom are up for the role of Kimberley (Pink Ranger). Variety goes on to add that, “the studio is looking for fresh faces to fill out the team and will probably look for a big name to play the antagonist for the films, though no offers have been made for that part.”

Power Rangers still airs on television, and the characters starred in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie back in 1995. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class) wrote this take on Power Rangers, and it’s currently set to be released on January 13th, 2017.
