Ryan-Corr-and-Russell-Crowe-in-The-Water-DivinerHaving spent years in front of the camera as one of the best-known actors of his generation, Russell Crowe has finally stepped behind it for his feature directorial debut, The Water Diviner.

Crowe takes the lead in the historical drama, set after the end of World War I in the wake of the Battle of Gallipoli. And with production currently underway out in Australia, production company Hopscotch Films have released the first image from the movie.

The Water Diviner is an epic adventure set soon after the end of WWI when an Australian father arrives in Turkey in search of the fate of his three sons, supposedly lost in the battle of Gallipoli. The Water Diviner is an extraordinary tale of love, faith and heroism that explores the conflicted and unpredictable nature of war and the human heart.

Crowe has assembled a great cast for his debut, starring alongside Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney, Isabel Lucas, Ryan Corr, and Damon Herriman.

Crowe directs from a script co-written by Andrew Knight (Rake) and Andrew Anastasios, with Andrew Mason (The Matrix), Troy Lum (Saving Mr. Banks), and Keith Rodger (3:10 to Yuma) producing.

No word yet on when we can expect The Water Diviner to arrive in cinemas. But with the film currently in front of cameras, keep your fingers crossed for a release, at least an early bow on the festival circuit, before the year’s end.
