The-Pretty-OneFollowing its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, the long wait is almost over for Jenée LaMarque’s romantic comedy-drama The Pretty One, with the film heading into US cinemas early next month.

The first trailer has debuted over on Apple, giving a very promising first look at the film, led by Zoe Kazan in a dual role as twin sisters Laurel and Audrey.

The Pretty One is a coming of age comedy about identity and loss and a wallflower who finally learns how to break out of her shell. In a balancing act of a performance, Zoe Kazan portrays a dueling mixture of loss and awakening as twins Laurel and Audrey, most poignantly as a relationship blooms with her new neighbor (Jake Johnson). As Laurel begins to slip into the life she has always wanted but never thought was possible, she must decide between continuing her life as Audrey and revealing herself as the perfect fraud.

Jake Johnson stars opposite Kazan in the male lead, with Ron Livingston, John Carroll Lynch, and Frankie Shaw completing the ensemble.

The film marks LaMarque’s feature directorial debut, directing from her own script, and making her feature debut as a writer too.

Kazan really made a name for herself with her breakthrough performance in Ruby Sparks, and has been one to watch ever since. She was most recently seen in Some Girl(s), and has Michael Dowse’s The F Word on her slate for this year, as well as Brin Hill’s romantic sci-fi, In Your Eyes, penned by Joss Whedon. A very exciting upcoming slate, to say the least.

The Pretty One will be given a limited release in the US on February 7th. No word yet on a UK release date, which is perhaps unfortunately to be expected. With any luck, we’ll at least see it get a DVD/Blu-ray release on our shores later this year.
