The-Place-Beyond-the-Pines-UK-Quad-PosterDerek Cianfrance has made a remarkable follow-up to his Oscar-nominated Blue Valentine, returning to the helm to bring us one of the finest crime-dramas in years in The Place Beyond the Pines.

It’s a film I’d been looking forward to ever since it was first announced, and I was fortunate enough to see it make its debut out in Toronto last year. Needless to say, it’s an incredible film, and I can’t wait to be able to talk to everyone about it.

We saw a new UK poster surface at the end of last week, and Empire have debuted the quad poster for our shores, giving us a new look at the brilliant Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper alongside Eva Mendes.

Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.

Starring alongside Gosling, Cooper, and Mendes is a terrific ensemble, led by Dane DeHaan, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen.

Cianfrance is once more directing from his own script, reuniting with past collaborators Jamie Patricof, Alex Orlovsky, and Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine), who produce alongside Sidney Kimmel (Moneyball, Lars and the Real Girl).

In case you’re still in need of any persuasion, you should only need to watch the latest trailer to get yourself hooked and eagerly awaiting its release date.

The Place Beyond the Pines will be arriving in the US on 29th March, followed by a UK release date set for 12th April. I really can’t recommend this one enough. Cianfrance is a masterful storyteller, and this is a must-see film of the year.
