Alan Bennett and director Nicholas Hytner have reunited for another typically British tale of idiosyncrasy to warm the heart. The Lady in the Van has Maggie Smith giving a typically barnstorming performance as the titular character, and the chaos she causes around her.
Alex Jennings plays Bennett himself, as this is a story taken from the playwright’s own life, and Maggie Smith is joined by Jim Broadbent, Frances De La Tour and Roger Allam.
