Coming off the back of a debut out in Toronto, David Dobkin’s The Judge is just weeks away from arriving in cinemas, with Warner Bros. giving it a very nice October slot during the height of awards season.

Some critics at TIFF didn’t take to it quite as well as you might have expected – you can read Ian’s review from Toronto here – but with Downey, Jr. in the lead, the anticipation is nevertheless in no short order.

Warner Bros.’ UK arm launched a new trailer for our shores last week, and now the studio has debuted the US theatrical trailer, giving us another look at one of the year’s most anticipated films.

In “The Judge,” Downey stars as big city lawyer Hank Palmer, who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge (Duvall), is suspected of murder.  He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.

Robert Duvall stars opposite Downey, Jr. in the joint lead, with Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shepard, David Krumholtz, Leighton Meester, and Billy Bob Thornton joining them for the ride.

Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) is directing from a script first penned by Nick Schenk (Gran Torino), with Bill Dubuque doing the final rewrite, based on a story Schenk and Dobkin co-wrote.

The Judge will be released in the US on October 10th, a week ahead of its October 17th release in the UK.
