The-Hobbit:-The-Desolation-of-Smaug-Teaser-PosterWith less than four months to go before it hits cinemas, you can be sure that Warner Bros. are about to start fully gearing up for the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The film is of course the second instalment in the franchise, following last year’s billion-dollar grosser, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. And with its release date very much on the horizon, a new promo poster and piece of artwork have surfaced online, via TheOneRing.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit”, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventures of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Martin Freeman is front and centre once more as the young Bilbo Baggins, and he’s joined by another terrific ensemble, led by Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Ian Holm, and many more.

Peter Jackson is at the helm, directing from a script he co-wrote with Fran Walsh and Phillippa Boyens.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be hitting cinemas in 2D, 3D, and HFR 3D on December 13th in the UK and US. And in case you missed it, you can catch up with the first teaser trailer that landed earlier in the summer.
