Originally set to be released in cinemas during the awards season this October, Disney decided to push The Finest Hours into 2016 after renewing its deal with IMAX in the spring.

The move allows them to capitalise on the large-screen format with a story that definitely feels like it will do well in an IMAX 3D run. And now we’ve got the first trailer and poster to whet our appetites.

The Finest Hours tells the true tale of how in 1952, a Noreaster hit the New England coast, and two oil tankers were caught in the middle. The ships split in two, casting its crews into the ferocious seas, and it was up to the valiant effort of the coast guard to attempt a rescue.

Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Casey Affleck lead the cast, with support from John Ortiz, Holliday Grainger, Eric Bana, Graham McTavish, Kyle Gallner, and Rachel Brosnahan.

Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) directs from a script by Paul Tamsay and Eric Johnson (The Fighter).

The Finest Hours will land in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on 29th January, 2016 in the UK and the US.
