The-Family-PosterPreviously titled Malavita, Luc Besson’s The Family sees him returning to the action fare that we all know and love him for, with a healthy dose of comedy thrown in for good measure.

Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer take the lead here for Besson, and after catching the first poster and images last night, Yahoo Movies have released the film’s first trailer.

A mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of Agent Stansfield to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni, his wife Maggie and their children Belle and Warren can’t help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the “family” way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down.

De Niro and Pfeiffer star alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Diana Agron, and John D’Leo.

Besson is directing from a script that he co-wrote with Michael Caleo (The Last Time). And to top it all off, Martin Scorsese is serving as executive producer.

The last time we saw Besson behind the camera was for his powerful 2011 biopic, The Lady, and I’m looking forward to seeing him return with a comedy-actioner.

The Family will be released in the US on September 20th, and will arrive in the UK slightly later on 8th November. Here’s the first trailer to whet your appetites.
