We’ve seen a number of movie actors enlist in roster of The Expendables over the course of three movies, but the franchise is now heading to the small screen. The event series is being developed by Fox and is based on those films according to a new report. Franchise writer and star Sylvester Stallone will produce.

Joining him will be The Expendables producer Avi Lerner and NCIS’ Shane Brennan as series showrunner.

Greg Coolidge (Ride Along) is writing the adaptation alongside Kirk Ward and Brennan. The TV series is described as, “as a fun action drama that unites iconic TV stars as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist.” It’s certainly an interesting new direction for the franchise!

There are any number of small screen actors known for taking on action orientated roles that The Expendables could turn to, and the idea of this series has apparently been floating around since 2012.

The movie have never been particularly well-received by critics, but have grossed a total of $800 million combined at the worldwide box office. The third instalment didn’t do that well, but it being leaked online weeks before release was blamed for that. Fourth and fifth Expendables movies are said to be in the works.
