Denzel-Washington-in-The-EqualizerDue out towards the end of next year, Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer sees the director reteaming with action legend Denzel Washington after their brilliant pairing on Training Day.

Wrapping production over the summer, we’ve been waiting for the first official look at Washington, and now it’s landed online.

Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, the film sees Washington take on the role first played by Edward Woodward, starring as an ex-covert operative who offers his services in order to atone for his past sins.

Chloë Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo, Haley Bennett, Marton Csokas, Johnny Messner, Vladimir Kulich, and Robert Wahlberg complete the cast alongside Washington.

Fuqua is directing from a script penned by Richard Wenk (The Mechanic, The Expendables 2), with Washington himself producing alongside Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal (Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happyness).

The film has been in development for years, going through various different iterations before finally settling on Washington in the lead and Fuqua behind the camera, with Russell Crowe previously attached to star, and Nicolas Winding Refn and Rupert Wyatt set to direct before Fuqua finally came on board.

The Equalizer will be released on September 26th, 2014 in the US, with its UK release date set for 10th October. For now, here’s the first image, which you can click through to enlarge.
