The-Double-Poster-Jesse-EisenbergRichard Ayoade’s Submarine is easily one of the most memorable directorial debuts in recent years, and his sophomore effort, The Double, sees him returning behind the camera with another brilliant comedy.

This time around, things are darker in tone, adapting Dostoyevsky’s classic novella for the big screen.

In recent months, we’ve been treated to a handful of teaser trailers, showcasing the eerie nature of the doppelgänger story wonderfully. And with less than two months before it arrives on our shores, StudioCanal have launched the first full-length trailer over on Yahoo Movies.

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

Jesse Eisenberg does double duties in the lead as both Simon and his new co-worker, James, with Mia Wasikowska shining in the female lead. The two are supported by a great ensemble, with Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor, and Yasmin Paige completing the leading cast, and Chris O’Dowd, Craig Roberts, James Fox, Paddy Considine, and Sally Hawkins adding some terrific appearances.

Ayoade directs from a script he co-wrote with Avi Korine (Mister Lonely), with Michael Caine executive producing.

The Double will be released in the UK and Ireland on 4th April, before getting a limited theatrical release in the US on May 9th, when it will also be available On Demand.
