One of 2017’s most highly anticipated comic book TV shows is without a doubt Marvel and Netflix’s The Defenders. Finally uniting Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (who makes his own debut in March), not much is known about the series right now, but we finally have a first look at the heroes assembled on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

Asked to shed some light on what brings these very different characters together in The Defenders, showrunner Marco Ramirez explained: “Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York. We wanted them all caught off guard. Once they’re in that room together, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh, s—, who are you?'”

What exactly they’re on the trail for remains to be seen, though you can bet your life that it probably has something to do with the mysterious villain being played by Sigourney Weaver!

In the comic books, The Defenders is a very different sort of team made up of heroes like Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, and The Hulk. However, this version promises to stand apart from both them and The Avengers. “The Defenders didn’t have a ‘D’ on their belt buckles and a Defenders Tower,” says Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb. “We agreed from the very beginning that these folks could at the very end go, ‘I never want to see your face again.'”

A premiere date for The Defenders has not yet been revealed, so stay tuned for updates.
