London found itself with another reason to dress up this evening as it held the premiere for Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, hotly tipped for Oscar success with Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander two prominent reason why.

Both Redmayne and Hooper made their names (and Oscars) with cinematic adaptations of extraordinary people from real life, and so The Danish Girl continues this trend.

The film tells the story of Einar Wegener, the recipient of the first instance of sex reassignment surgery, and his wife Gerda. It has played very well across the festival circuit, our review from Venice can be read here.
