Back to the Future Official LEGO Set (1)

Here’s something I’ve been awaiting a very long time and thanks to our pals at Digital Spy for the heads up, it’s now here! Back in December, we put up the images of the winner of the LEGO Cuusoo scheme which allows fans to create their own new designs and it was a couple of chaps called m.togami* and Sakuretsu that won the competition by earning over 10k votes.

LEGO have been hard at work creating the official version of the original  m.togami* and Sakuretsu design and here it is in all its glory! According to DS,

Alongside the DeLorean, which features time setting display, 1985 and 2015 license plates and a flux capacitor, the set will also include Marty McFly and Doc Brown minifigures.

The set will cost £34.99 and should be available very soon.

That’s my Christmas present sorted! Anyone else!?

GREAT SCOTT! LEGO® UK LAUNCHES NEW Back to the Future™ Time Machine

World’s leading construction toy brand announces launch of classic Time Machine – designed entirely by consumers from its LEGO CUUSOO platform…

18th July 2013: Today, The LEGO Group unveils its limited-edition LEGO® Back to the Future™ Time Machine.  The world-famous Delorean has been replicated into miniature brick form and can be customised into one of three models from each of the movie trilogy.

Complete with Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown minifigures, the LEGO® Back to the Future™ Time Machine boasts time setting display, 1985 and 2015 license plates and of course the all-important flux capacitor!  With only a limited number of sets available worldwide, the model has an RRP of £34.99 from select stockists in the UK.

The set was selected from among four LEGO CUUSOO projects in the latest round of user submissions to reach the requisite 10,000 fan vote threshold, which also included: a Rifter ship from the EVE Online™ massively-multiplayer online game, a scene from The Legend of Zelda™, and a modular Western Town scene.   The LEGO Back to the Future™ Time Machine has been produced for sale under a licensing agreement from Universal Pictures. The item is the fourth user-designed and submitted product to be manufactured from the LEGO CUUSOO platform.

Consumers whose LEGO CUUSOO ideas are selected for production earn one percent of the total net sales of the product. Masashi Togami, a creative director from Tokyo, Japan who designed the Time Machine model, will donate his royalty to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

LEGO CUUSOO is the global idea collection platform that allows consumers to submit their ideas for new LEGO products. Submissions that receive 10,000 fan votes on LEGO.cuusoo.com are then reviewed quarterly by the company and considered for production. Other LEGO CUUSOO projects that have been produced for sale include: LEGO Minecraft Microworld, a LEGO Hayabusa asteroid explorer, and the LEGO Shinkai 6500 submarine.
