We knew The Avengers was going to be big but I reckon not even Disney / Marvel knew how big until box office confirmations started to come in during the day. We’ve just received a press release which has confirmed that the movie has taken the number one spot in all 39 countries in which it opened.

On top of that, Disney have confirmed the following:

In the UK Marvel’s Avengers Assemble has become:

  • The biggest Disney Day 3 opening of all time
  • The biggest Superhero movie opening of all time
  • The biggest single day taking for a Disney Film of £5.4m
  • The weekend box office alone has taken more money than the entire run of Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor!

Right now, Mickey Mouse is rubbing his hands in delight at the prospect of the movie opening in the US this Friday 4th May when he’s no doubt going to absolutely rake it in!
