Hitting the big screen in May 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is naturally one of my most anticipated blockbusters of next year. I’m a huge fan of Marc Webb’s reboot last year, and can’t wait to see what he brings us in the sequel.
Production began at the start of the month, and Webb has been taking to Twitter to tease intriguing and mysterious images from the set. One thing we’ve been looking forward to seeing is the redesigned suit that we’ve been promised, which has been expected to have bigger eyes and an altered texture/colouring. And now that first official look has arrived, courtesy of SuperHeroHype, delivering us a brilliant first good look at our hero for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
“In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.”
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprise their leading roles as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. And they’re joined by another great ensemble, led by Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Shailene Woodley, Sally Field, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, and the brilliant Felicity Jones is an as-yet-unknown role.
Webb is directing from a script co-written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, Lost), based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man).
Sony have already promised that the film is the second instalment in a forthcoming trilogy. And I personally have a very good feeling that they’ll be bringing us more than just three films in the years to come. I would hazard a guess and say that we’ll make it to at least The Amazing Spider-Man 5 with Garfield still in the lead, if not a full two trilogies. But it’s very early days yet, and it naturally may depend a little on how he ages in the years to come.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in 3D on 2nd May, 2014, and that release date just cannot come fast enough for me. This new suit looks awesome, and I can’t wait to see Garfield walking around in it.
And to make the comparison a little easier, here’s a reminder of what the suit looked like in last summer’s original blockbuster.
